Oishee to die for killing parents

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has sentenced Oishee Rahman to death for killing her parents–Mahfuzur Rahman, an inspector of police’s special branch, and Swapna Rahman–in 2013.

 

The court also awarded her friend Mizanur Rahman Roni to two years rigorous imprisonment for abetting the murders and fined Tk. 5000, in default he is to suffer one month more in jail.

Another friend Asaduzzaman Joni was acquitted in the case as charges brought against him could not be proved.

Judge Sayed Ahmed of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 on Thursday handed down the verdict.

On August 14, 2013, Mahfuzur and his wife Shapna Begum were stabbed to death at their rented flat in Chamelibagh, Malibagh.

Police recovered their bodies on August 16, two days after the incident. The same day schoolgirl Oishee with housemaid Sumi surrendered at the Paltan police station.
