KMA Hasnat: A report on the eighth pay scale for public servants along with the recommendations likely to be placed in the cabinet meeting today (Monday).

Officials at the implementation wing of the Finance Ministry said that officers and non-officers were at loggerheads over choosing 5% compound increment or selection grade provisions.

The summary of the new pay scale has been prepared by Finance Secretary Mahbub Ahmed.

The secretary-level committee submitted its updated report to the finance minister on May 13.

The government last year formed the 8th National Pay and Services Commission headed by Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Farashuddin. And a secretary-level committee was formed to review the recommendations of the pay commission in last January.

Under the proposal, the lowest grade’s basic salary would increase 100% to become Tk8,200 from Tk4,100. The main salary of the highest grade would also be doubled to become Tk80,000.

The Pay Commission, headed by former Bangladesh Bank governor Mohammed Farashuddin, made its recommendations on December 21 last year.
