Jatiya Party’s MPs-elect finally taking oath Wednesday

Jatiya Party has finally decided that newly-elected members of parliament from the party will take oath Wednesday (10 January).
At noon, Jatiya Party Chairman Gholam Mohammad Quader said the January 7 election was not held in a free and fair manner and it is not acceptable. They would win more seats if the election was held properly.
The party is considering the matter that whether they will take oath or not and they will discuss the matter in the party forum, he also said.
Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu said that those elected from his party won't participate in the Wednesday’s oath-taking ceremony, as most of them are still outside Dhaka.
In a reversal from its earlier decision, Jatiya Party said at night that its newly-elected members of parliament are going to take oath 10 January.
The party issued a press release in this regard signed by its Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam.
According to the press release, it also cancelled a pre-announced meeting. The party requested all of its MPs-elect to remain present at the office of deputy leader of parliament by 10am.
Members of parliament elected in the 12th national election are scheduled to take oath at 10am on Wednesday.
Awami League-backed candidates won 222 seats in 7 January’s general elections, while independent candidates won 62 seats.
Jatiya Party fielded candidates for 265 seats in the election and won only 11 despite a seat-sharing agreement with the AL for 26 seats.
The party had 22 seats in the 11th Parliament.
