Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the US did not term the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election of Bangladesh as flawed.

“The US government will continue to keep relation with the incumbent government of Bangladesh as the two countries have mutual interests,” he said.

The AL veteran leader made the remarks during the view exchange meeting with journalists at his secretariat office on Sunday (February 4).

Quader said: “After the election, U.S. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller has spoken of in two ways. Once he said free and fair election was not held in Bangladesh. He also said that it is our responsibility to maintain relations with Bangladesh in many other areas. From that perspective, we maintain relationship and have a commitment to keep relationship and will do so in future.”

“They have earlier said about the election being free and fair. However, they did not say that the election was flawed,” he said.
