‘BNP out to turn anti-quota movement into anti-govt one’

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said BNP is attempting to turn anti-quota movement into an anti-government one.

He made the comment while addressing a press conference at the party’s political office in Dhanmondi on Thursday (July 11).

Quader said malevolent forces were trying to create unrest and disrupt economic activities by exploiting students’ emotions.

Urging everyone to show respect to the top court, he said while the Supreme Court continued the judicial process on the quota issue after hearing all parties involved, obstructing public movement and vehicular traffic on the pretext of protests was illegal.

He also said that some parties including BNP have supported the anti-quota movement. BNP is trying to turn the anti-quota movement into an anti-government one. Fakhrul said there is no need for freedom fighter quota. They have no respect to freedom fighters. By opposing the quota, BNP once again proved that they are against the liberation war.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday (July 10) ordered a month-long status quo on the issue of quotas in government jobs.

Soon after, the protesters announced their intention to remain on the streets until their quota-reform demand was met and were set to resume their demonstrations on Thursday afternoon.
