Jamaat wants proper reforms before election

A new round of political dialogue of the interim government led by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus with the political parties began on Saturday (October 5).

The dialogue between the council of advisers and political parties commenced at the State Guest House Jamuna at 2:30 pm.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami and some major political parties attended on the first day.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said his party would unveil its proposals regarding the interim government's ongoing reform measures before the nation on October 9.

They want the country to go through proper reforms before an election. An acceptable election can only be held after a thorough reform, they said.

Besides, the meeting also discussed the current law and order and how the government and the public can work together to improve it, he added.

Mentioning that the interim government took charge to create a proper pathway for the next government, Shafiqur said the government's main objective should be creating a congenial environment for holding a credible, proper, and peaceful election.

At the dialogue, BNP placed a series of demands including a roadmap for holding the next election.
