BNP believes that if there is a vacancy in the presidential post at this moment, it will create a barrier for creating a democratic environment in the country.
BNP standing committee member Salah Uddin Ahmed made the remark while talking to journalists at the party chairperson’s office at Gulshan in the capital on Wednesday (October 23) afternoon.
“If the President is removed at this moment, the country may face new constitutional and political crises”, he said.
He said, “the post of President is a constitutional post, it is the highest constitutional post. If a vacancy is created in this post through the sudden resignation, a constitutional and a state crisis will be created. The nation cannot want the path to democracy to be delayed and obstructed, by creating a state crisis”.
“We all should remain alert so that no new constitutional or political crisis is created in the country,” he said.
Earlier, a BNP delegation that included party standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salah Uddin Ahmed met Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.
Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Mahfuj Alam were present at the meeting.
