BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir talks to journalists after paying rich tributes to the martyred intellectuals at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the Awami League is detached from the public even on the Martyred Intellectuals Day because it has killed democracy and committed genocide.
The veteran leader made the remarks while paying rich tributes to the memories of the illustrious sons of Bangladesh by placing wreaths at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Dhaka on the occasion of the Martyred Intellectuals Day.
Fakhrul said, “Today is Martyred Intellectuals Day. On this day in 1971, on the eve of victory, the Pakistani occupation forces targeted and killed Bangladesh’s illustrious minds, including journalists, intellectuals, professors, scientists, and members of civil society. That was one of the gravest losses in our nation's history."
The BNP secretary general further said: "On behalf of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on behalf of our party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and our acting chairman Tarique Rahman, we pay tribute to the martyred intellectuals and pray for their eternal peace."
He said, “These martyred intellectuals are the inspiration for Bangladesh’s democracy and for taking the country forward. We will continue to fight to materialize their ideals and sacrifices.”
