BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said allies of fascist Sheikh Hasina and those who nurtured and supported the Awami League, who served in the administration, are still holding various key positions in the secretariat now. The recent fire at the Secretariat was a part of their conspiracy.
The BNP leader made the remarks while addressing reporters after meeting the family of Sohanur Zaman Nayan, a firefighter who died after being hit by a truck while crossing the road in the fire team’s desperate bid to douse the midnight fire at a Bangladesh Secretariat building on Wednesday (December 25), at Atpunia in Rangpur’s Mithapukur upazila around 10:30 am on Saturday (December 28).
“The fire at the Secretariat occurred soon after files related to corruption investigations involving Sheikh Hasina and her family were requested by an advisor to the interim government,” he claimed. Such incidents are deeply concerning and have caused widespread suspicion across the country.
Rizvi noted that the Secretariat, being a highly secure government office, has now raised questions about its safety protocols. He emphasized that critical documents, including files related to a controversial former cabinet secretary under investigation, were destroyed in the fire.
Firefighter Nayan set an example of professionalism by sacrificing his life to douse the fire of that conspiracy, Rizvi mentioned.
He assured that BNP would provide all-out cooperation to the Nayan’s family, requesting the interim government to come forward to rehabilitating the family including providing jobs to the family members.
