Fakhrul hopes interim govt will restore democratic rights

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed hope that the interim government would restore the democratic rights of the people.

Fakhrul said this while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday (March 31).

The BNP secretary general said, “This Eid is different for us compared to the last 15 years. There are many differences. We are celebrating Eid in a free environment. We have been fighting for 16 years to establish democracy, the right of people to vote, the right to ‘Bhat’ and human rights.”

He also prayed for those who had lost their lives in past pro-democracy movements and wished for a joyous Eid celebration for all.

Other senior BNP leaders, including National Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, along with activists, were present at the event.
