Senior Correspondent: BNP on Saturday announced another round of three-day countrywide programme from Monday to Wednesday protesting the jail sentence of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a graft case.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital this afternoon.
The programmes included staging a human chain on Monday, an hour-long sit in on Tuesday and a hunger strike from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Wednesday, Rizvi said.
He said their party’s district, thana, upzila and city units will observe the programmes at their convenient time and place, while the venues for staging the programmes in the capital will be announced later.
On Thursday last (February 8), a special court here convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
In protest against the verdict, BNP announced a two-day protest programme for Friday and Saturday.
BNP leaders and activists brought out processions in the capital on Friday and Saturday chanting slogans seeking Khaleda’s release, but police dispersed them.
