Govt must face international protests, says Nazrul

Senior Correspondent: BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan claimed the government has violated international labour laws by the denial of permission to the party’s labour wing Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal to hold rally in the city marking the May Day.

Terming it as ‘snatching away of rights’, the noted labour leader said, “The government must face international protests for this.”

The BNP stalwart came up with the statement at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Tuesday.

Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal arranged the press conference protesting the denial of permission for holding rally in the city marking the May Day.

Nazrul Islam Khan said, “The government is not a friendly to people and workers as it is not an elected. The government is committing such manners which are obviously against the international rules and regulations. So, they must have to face international protests in this regard.”

The BNP leader said Bangladesh promised to ensure workers’ freedom of expression as a member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

“Sramik Dal is the member of the International Trade Union. We used to inform them about our programmes. We’ll now inform them as to why we couldn’t hold our programmes on the May Day,” he said.

He said the government is showing an unfair and hostile attitude towards Sramik Dal as it is the associate body of BNP.

The denial of police permission for taking out a rally by Sramik Dal on the International Workers' Day has once again justified the German-based research organisation’s report that the government has turned autocrat, he added.
