Senior Correspondent: Jatiya Party (JP) has expelled Barisal mayoral candidate Iqbal Hossain Taposh for contesting in the city polls violating the party’s central instruction.
JP chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad expelled him from all the party posts according to the party constitution on Friday, a day before the polls.
The news was revealed in a press release signed by Ershad’s deputy press secretary Khandaker Delwar Jalali on Friday night.
“Iqbal Hossain Taposh was expelled from the party because of his adamant of contesting mayoral race in Barisal City Corporation,” the press release said.
He was also accused of delivering derogatory comments against the party’s central leaders and breaching disciplines.
Earlier, JP chairman Ershad announced withdrawal of the party candidacy from the city polls and expressed support to the ruling AL nominated mayoral candidate.
But Iqbal rejected the decision and announced to contest the polls till the last which made Ershad furious.
