Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain hosted the iftar at a hotel in the capital in honour of political leaders and noted citizens this afternoon.
Since the formation of Dr Kamal Hossain-led opposition alliance Jatiya Oikyafront comprising BNP, Awami League for the first time sent its any delegation to any Gonoforum event.
BNP standing committee member Dr Moyeen Khan, joint secretaries general Mahbubuddin Khokon, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party general secretary Saiful Hauqe, Gonoforum executive presidents Professor Abu Sayeed, Subrata Chowdhury and its general secretary Reza Kibria, among others, joined the event.
Eminent economist Prof Rehman Sobhan, Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and Barrister Mainul Hosein also joined the event.
“I, on behalf of Bangabandhu’s daughter and Awami league President Sheikh Hasina, thanked Gonoforum for inviting Awami League to such a programme. Before coming here, the Prime Minister had phoned me and said she’s unable to join the programme on her personal health ground,” Faruk Khan said.
He further said, “She (PM) asked me to greet you, on her behalf, on the occasion of holy Ramadan. We’ll pray to Allah at his iftar event so that she can run the country in a better way, and work for the country’s people.”
Dr Kamal thanked the guests for joining the event. He, however, didn’t make any political comment as it was an iftar party.
