Death row convict Abdus Sobhan dies

Former Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat -e-Islami Maulana Abdus Sobhan, who has been awarded death penalty for committing crimes against humanity in 1971 war, passed away.
The former lawmaker of Pabna-5 constituency breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Friday noon. He was 84.
Mahbubul Islam, jailer of the Central Jail in Keraniganj, confirmed the news to risingbd.
He said Abdus Sobhan, who was behind the bar for long days, was suffering from different health complexities including kidney and heart diseases.
On February 18 in 2015, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) awarded death penalty to the top Jamaat-e-Islami leader for his crimes against humanity, including mass killing, murder and confinement and torture of pro-liberation people, during the Liberation War in 1971.
