Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader
Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina has been re-elected to the post for the 10th consecutive term while the General Secretary Obaidul Quader for the third time in a row.
They were re-elected as the party’s top leaders at its 22nd council session held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on Saturday (December 24).
AL leader Amir Hossain Amu proposed Hasina as president of the party and Mostafizur Rahman Fizar seconded the motion. Hasina, also the prime minister, was elected unopposed as there were no opposing candidates for the post.
Obaidul Quader’s name for AL General Secretary was proposed by Shadhon Chandra Majumder, Naogaon district AL general secretary, and seconded by Dhaka district AL leader Panirurzaman Tarun. Quader was also elected unopposed as there was no opposing candidate.
Yusuf Hossain Humayun, chief election commissioner of the council, announced the results in the evening.
