Leaving a question that refers to which country in the world has sent a convict abroad for treatment, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will have to go to jail again and go to court for permission if she wishes to go abroad for treatment.
She said these in an interview with Voice of America (VOA) on Saturday (September 30).
When asked about the possibility of reconsidering the decision to send Khaleda abroad for improved treatment, the Premier said, “My question is, which country in the world can send a convicted criminal abroad for better treatment? Will any country allow it?”
“If they want to apply, they have to go to the court and take permission from there. We have no authority over work of the judiciary,” she stated.
The Prime Minister said, “She (Khaleda Zia) has been allowed to stay home, suspending her sentence. She is being treated at the most expensive hospital in Bangladesh.”
