Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has directed the party leaders and activists to stay on the streets to resist BNP's Dhaka blockade program.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this while addressing a ‘peace rally’ at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram national mosque in the capital on Wednesday.
The AL's Dhaka north and south city units arranged the rally marking the 60th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“If you initiate a blockade program, we, too, will give similar one. We won’t stand idly by. It remains to be seen how the Americans will address this situation”, he said.
The final message from his party to BNP is that the next national election will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and that she will come to power again after winning people's votes, he said.
The general secretary said, “The caretaker government system is a dead issue now.... The system will not be restored.”
