AL active on streets to prevent blockade

A three-day blockade of road, rail and waterways, enforced by main opposition BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and like-minded opposition parties, has continued from Tuesday morning with some sporadic incidents across the country.
They are observing the programme to mount pressure on the Awami League government to quit and hold the next election under a non-party, neutral administration.
The ruling Awami League and its associate bodies are holding processions and rallies after taking to streets with an aim to build strong resistance against BNP-Jamaat’s hartal-blockade, terrorism and subversive activities in the protection of peoples’ lives and properties.
AL leaders and activists claimed that they have occupied the streets on the second day like first day.
They held peaceful processions across the country on Wednesday in protest against BNP-Jamaat’s hartal-blockade, terrorism and subversive activities.
Party leaders and activists gathered in Jatrabari area and marched the different areas of Dhaka-5 under the leadership of Kamrul Hasan Ripon.
Former lawmaker Sabina Akhter, Mijanur Rahman Mijan and Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil observed peaceful sit-in programmes in Gabtali area with party activists and leaders.
