Ceiling plaster collapses during exam, leaving 6 students injured

During the half-yearly examination, the ceiling plaster of a classroom of Tahirpur Girls High School and College in Sunamganj collapsed, leaving six students injured.
The injured students received treatment at Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex.
The incident happened on Sunday (June 18) afternoon.
The injured students were known as Sumitra Roy and Saki Roy of class nine, Ahmad Moallema of class 10, Parna Maitra, Zebin Rahat and Ananya Dey of class 8.
According to sources, half-yearly examination is going on in Tahirpur Girls High School. During the examination on Sunday noon, a part of plaster of the ceiling room no 1 of the school collapsed and fell on the students, leaving six students injured. Later, the injured students were rescued and taken to Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Doctor of Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex Mirza Riad Hasan said the students suffered head and body injuries. They have been treated and sent home.
School teacher Saurav Ahmed said during the examination, suddenly a part of the plaster of the ceiling collapsed.
Yahia Talukdar, head teacher of Tahirpur Girls High School and College, said the accident happened because the building is very old. Although the authorities were repeatedly requested for construction of new buildings, they did not take any initiatives.
