Tk 1,261cr spent on Mujib Borsho celebration 

The interim government has suspended related budget allocation for Mujib Borsho celebration starting from 2024-25 financial year.

The Advisory Council took the decision at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday with Chief Adviser in the chair.

The relevant ministries and government entities presented the expenditure to the Advisory Council meeting.

According to the information, the ousted Awami League government spent Tk 1,261 crore during the celebration of Mujib Borsho, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the last six years.

The then government declared the year 2020–21 as the Mujib Year. The year was celebrated from 17 March 2020 to 31 March 2022 (extended by one year, from 17 March 2021 to 31 March 2022).
