Bangladesh make history with first T20 win in New Zealand

Bangladesh made a historical victory beating New Zealand in the opening game of their three-match Twenty20 series in Napier on Wednesday (December 27).

Winning toss, Bangladesh opted to bowl first and got a 135 runs target from host New Zealand.

Liton Das anchored the chase and had a good support from Sheikh Mahedi, who remained not out on 19 off 16 deliveries, as Bangladesh chased down the target in 18.4 overs with five wickets in hand. Liton took 42 runs from 36 balls hitting two boundaries and one over boundary.

This is the Bangladesh’s first-ever T20I win over the Kiwis in New Zealand.

For New Zealand, James Neesham managed to score 48 runs off 29 balls and Mitchell Santner took 23 runs. Mitchell hit consecutive fours before falling for 14 to leave New Zealand 20-4.

Shoriful Islam bagged three key wickets while Mahedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman two wickets each.

Mahedi Hasan was given player of the match award for his outstanding performance.
