The 10th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the country's sole franchise-based T20 league, is set to commence today (January 19) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
In the opening day fixtures, reigning champions Comilla Victorians will take on newcomers Durdanto Dhaka at 02:30pm while last year’s runners-up Sylhet Strikers will face Chattogram Challengers at 07:30pm.
Each season of BPL is getting better than the previous ones. There has been a lot of change in the commentator panel along with modern technology in broadcasting. Spidercam and Buggy camera will be used for the first time in this event.
Durdanto Dhaka’s vice-captain Tskin Ahmed said, “Our team is very young. Mosaddek is there, I am also there, there are many other experienced cricketers. Many foreign cricketers will arrive. If we can organize the existing team and play with unity, it will definitely be a good thing.”
Shuvagata Hom said, “The first match of a tournament is very important. We are all very focused on the first match. If you can finish the first match well, the tournament will also go well.”
Apart from Dhaka, the tournament will also be held in Sylhet and Chattogram. Sylhet will host a total of 12 matches – the highest number of matches in their history – between 26 January and 3 February while Chattogram will also host the same number of matches on 13-20 February. The playoffs and the final, however, will take place in Mirpur. The final will be held on March 1.
Ticket prices of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) have been set ranging from Tk200 to Tk2,500.
