South Africa cricket team beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York on Monday (June 3).
South Africa chased down a 78-run target in just 16.2 overs.
Earlier, Anrich Nortje took four wickets as Sri Lanka started their T20 World Cup campaign through a low-scoring match. They were all out for just 77 runs against South Africa.
Only three batters of Sri Lanka managed to reach double figures. Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, and Angelo Mathews scored 19, 11, and 16 runs respectively.
For South Africa, Anrich Nortje bagged four wickets giving only seven runs.
In reply, South Africa completed the job with 3.4 overs and six wickets to spare.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first, but found the going tough early on, as South Africa’s bowlers extracted extra bounce from the wicket.
