Afghan Cricket Board donates Tk38 lakh to flood victims

The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing of Afghanistan has announced that the Cricket Board employees and the Afghanistan national cricket team players have donated 2.27 million Afghanis to support families affected by floods.

The amount stands at around BDT 38 lakh.

Afghanistan National Television, under the control of the Taliban, reported this donation on Tuesday, June 4, citing the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

It is worth noting that heavy rains and deadly floods in recent weeks have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people and the destruction of thousands of homes in several provinces of the country.

Two United Nations agencies previously warned that the damages from the recent severe floods in Afghanistan are extensive and that the flood victims need long-term humanitarian aid.

Additionally, the World Health Organization has described the situation of flood victims in Afghanistan as “critical” and requested 14.5 million dollars to address their needs.

Rashid Khan Arman, the captain of the national cricket team, had previously expressed sorrow over the country’s flooding and announced the launch of a campaign to collect aid for the recent flood victims in Baghlan and other provinces.

According to the organization’s statistics, over 60,000 people have been affected in the provinces of Baghlan, Badakhshan, and Takhar alone.
