Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman laid to eternal rest 

Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman was laid to eternal rest beside his father’s grave at Mohammadpur Taj Mahal Road in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

The body of Ziaur, the distinguished figure in Bangladesh chess arena, was first taken to the Chess Federation premises where his namaz-e-janaza was held. 

Later, his body was taken to his home area in Mohammadpur. He was buried after another namaz-e-janaza at a local mosque.

Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman passed away after suffering a heart attack while competing in the 12th round match of the National Chess Championship in Dhaka on Friday evening at the age of 50.

The nation’s sports community is mourning Ziaur's death. President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their condolences. 

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), and other sports federations have also expressed their grief over the loss.
