PCB forms new selection committee

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially announced the constitution of a fresh selection committee, marking a major overhaul following the disappointing performance of the national team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan Observer reported.

The PCB confirmed the development by saying that the restructuring aims to revitalize the national team’s selection process after its recent World Cup disappointment.

The new committee includes former cricketers Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, alongside renowned coaches Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten.

Captains of Pakistan’s men’s teams Shan Masood and Babar Azam would also play pivotal roles in this committee.

One of the immediate tasks for this newly formed committee is to finalize the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled to take place in Pakistan next month. Players selected for the training camp will undergo stringent fitness evaluations before the final squad is decided.

It may be mentioned here that Bilal Afzal, previously part of the selection committee, would transition into a new role within the PCB.

Excluded from the committee are data analyst Hassan Cheema and Director International Cricket Usman Wahla.

Earlier, the PCB removed Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the previous selection committee setup.
