Papon resigns, Faruque Ahmed becomes new BCB president

Nazmul Hasan Papon has resigned from the post of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president. At the same time, Faruque Ahmed, a former national cricketer, has been made the new president of BCB.

A BCB director confirmed the matter after an emergency meeting of the directors on Thursday.

Nazmul took charge of BCB for the first time in 2012 as the president nominated by the government. He became the elected president the following year. Since then, he has been serving as the elected president of BCB for three consecutive terms. He quit the post following the fall of Sheikh Hasina government.

On the other hand, former cricketer Faruque Ahmed served as BCB chief selector for two terms earlier. He served in the first term from 2003 to 2007, and in the second term from 2013 to 2016. However, his tenure in the second term was not pleasant. He had to resign and leave.

Faruque Ahmed's path to becoming president was complicated. According to the constitution of BCB, the president will be elected from among the directors. But Faruque Ahmed was not the director of BCB. He was nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC) and brought into the BCB as a director. Later, he was elected as BCB president.
