Shanto wants to quit captaincy

Nazmul Hossain Shanto

Nazmul Hossain Shanto wants to step down as captain of Bangladesh national team.

The left-handed batsman has been leading all three formats for the past nine months. However, it is not clear whether he will step down in one format or all three formats.

A director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has informed the risingbd about the matter. But, Shanto has not yet officially informed the board. BCB is awaiting a letter from Shanto.

“He has discussed with some people about the matter. But, he has not officially informed us yet. After receiving a letter, it will be clear. Does he want to step down in one format or in all three editions; that will be confirmed after receiving the letter,” said the BCB director.

The left-handed batsman was given the captaincy of three formats in February this year, replacing Shakib Al Hasan.

Shanto led Bangladesh in nine Tests and earned three wins and six losses with the highlight being a maiden Test series win over Pakistan. In the nine ODIs that he captained Bangladesh, they lost six and won three matches. In T20Is, he led the side in 24 games where he earned 10 wins.
