Shakib Al Hasan wanted to retire after playing a Test at home against South Africa. But he could not come home due to various complications. He was absent in the Afghanistan series and the West Indies tour. He is also unable to play in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
At this situation, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed gave a light of hope. The BCB president spoke to reporters about Shakib while visiting the press box during the BPL match on Friday (January 3, 2025).
At that time, he said, “We will hold discussions with the ministry for Shakib in the Champions Trophy”. But Faruque Ahmed did not give any details about when the meeting will take place.
The Champions Trophy will be played in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9.
