Bangabandhu National Stadium renamed 

The historic Bangabandhu National Stadium has been renamed National Stadium, Dhaka.

An official order signed by Secretary of National Sports Council (NSC) Md Aminul Islam said this on Saturday.

The stadium was originally built in 1954 as a cricketing venue. It was first known as Dhaka Stadium and later as Dhaka National Stadium.

In 1996, a proposal was introduced to rename it after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which received final approval in 1998.
