Sports Desk: Bangladesh U-19 cricket team beat touring English youth team by 63 runs in the third and final Youth ODI at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.

An all-round performance by Shamim Hossain guided the hosts to victory in the match. The century by BG Charlesworth (115) was not enough to save the visitors from being whitewashed.

The young tigers had secured the three-match series 2-0 on Thursday with a game to spare after beating England U-19 side by five wickets in the second match. Bangladesh had made a good start to the series defeating the English side by five wickets in the first ODI on Tuesday.

It was the second successive series victory for the young tigers who had won the one-off T20 series beating visiting English Youth team by seven wickets last Sunday.

The English team will now travel to Chattogram on Monday (February 4) to play a two-match four-day Youth Tests series from February 7-10 and February 15-18 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The visitors will leave for home on February 19.

In Saturday’s last ODI, Bangladesh Youth team batted first after winning the toss and piled up a moderate total of 266 for 9 in 50 overs, featuring 88 runs in the 4th wicket stand by opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy and middle-order Shamim Hossain.

Shamim hammered the team’s highest 72 runs off 87 balls with five fours and three sixes and later grabbed two wickets for 43 runs to be adjudged man of the match.

Opener Joy made 57 off 90 balls with four fours. Number seven Shahadat Hossain scored 51 runs off 35 balls featuring five fours and two sixes, while opener Tanzid Hossain hit 23 runs of 22 balls with five boundaries. Lower-order Rishad Hossain made 22 runs off 20 balls.

GCH Hill took three wickets for 37 runs while JP Monley and AW Finch took two wickets each conceding 46 and 48 runs respectively.

Chasing 267, English opener Charlesworth tried his best to single-handedly snatch victory, but England were all out for 203 runs in 46.3 overs.

Charlesworth hammered a polished innings of 115 runs off 149 balls hitting 10 fours and one six. LBK Hollman scored 30 runs off 23 balls, LP Goldsworthy hit 21 runs off 53 balls GP Balderson scored 11 from 13 balls.
