Dipu secures Bangladesh’s first gold

Dipu Chakma has secured Bangladesh’s first gold medal in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games by winning the taekwondo poomsae event 29-plus-year category.

Dipu scored 16.24 points, beating competitors from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Nepal to clinch gold at Satdobato, Lalitpur on Monday.

“I can’t express my feelings in words. I’m feeling so proud to be able to do something for my country. I’ve been waiting for this day for so long,” ecstatic Dipu said after winning the medal.

“I’ve won gold medals in different international events in the past. I was confident this time, before coming to the SA Games,” he added.

Earlier, Bangladesh secured three bronze medals in kata event in Kathmandu.
