Former Bangladesh cricket coach gets knighthood

Former Bangladesh cricket coach also West Indies cricketing great Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge is to conferred with a knighthood.

In the New Year Honours announced today, he has been accorded Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (KCMG).

Born in England, the 68-year-old represented Barbados and Hampshire Cricket Club, but really made his mark in his 17-year-career opening the batting for one of the most dominant West Indies teams, many of those years alongside fellow Barbadian Desmond Haynes.

Greenidge played 108 Test matches and scored 7 588 runs at an average of 44.7, and in 128 One-Day Internationals, he scored 5 134 runs at an average of 45.

The son of the soil has a school named after him at Rock Dundo, St Peter, and he plays a very active role in its maintenance and upkeep.

Three people received the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). They are Professor Velma Eudora Newton for her outstanding contribution in the field of legal education and the development of law libraries; Bernell Llewellyn Arrindell for his outstanding contribution to the International Business Services and the private sector and  Margrita Marshall for her outstanding contribution to the development of local gospel music and the promotion of Christian values through music.
