Tangail UNO office vandalised, 10 injured

Staff Correspondent, Tangail: At least ten people were injured when supporters of defeated chairman candidate attacked the office of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) demanding re-counting of votes in Delduar upazila of the district.
The incident took place on Monday morning.
Shahadat Hossain, an upazila nirbahi official, said that Awami League’s rebel candidate Sirajul Islam Mollik won in the union parishad election held in Atia union of Delduar upazila on May 7. Defeating in the election, independent candidate of Atia union Md Sajjad Hossain and AL candidate Dewan Tahmina of Dewli union came to his residence on Monday morning. At this time, their supporters came in front of upazila parishad with a procession and attacked the UNO office demanding re-counting of votes in Delduar upazila of the district.
At a stage of their attack, they vandalised at least three motorbikes.
To bring the situation under control, police fired several blank shots that left at least ten people injured.
The injured were admitted to upazila health complex.
